Winning Is Not Everything Podcast, Presented By TeamSnap: Coach of the Month
The Winning Is Not Everything podcast, presented by TeamSnap is a series aimed to “help temper the obsession in youth sports on titles and trophies and emphasize more inclusive, universal and attainable expectations such as character development and goal-setting.” Sean Jensen, the podcast host, is a former NFL reporter, children’s book author, and youth sports coach.
Each episode features a conversation with a notable athlete, coach or influencer about their youth sports experience, lessons they learned through sports and keys to their success. TeamSnap is proud to be part of Jensen’s work to share stories in the sports space. Each month, the Winning Is Not Everything podcast and TeamSnap will announce a Coach of the Month award. This award will bring light to some coaches around North America making an impact well beyond the field.

This month’s Coach of the Month is Ryan Deuber, Director of Goalkeeping for MSYSA Olympic Development Program (ODP).
Ryan is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of MSYSA Goalkeeping. He offers goalkeeper-specific coaching education opportunities to meet the needs of MSYSA affiliates, coaches, and programs consistent with the philosophies and intent of U.S. Soccer (USSF).
Ryan currently resides in Baltimore with his wife. He played soccer at Hood College and is also a lower school teacher and enjoys watching sports in his free time.
Why do you work in youth soccer?
“The game of soccer created many opportunities for me growing up and I wanted to be able to give back to the game. During my time as a coach, I have discovered that there is no better feeling than being able to help a young player accomplish a goal they set for themselves or reach a level they never thought was possible. It pushes me to want to help more players discover that passion for the game.”
