<p>Good cheerleading coaches must teach, guide, train, inspire and motivate.</p>

<p>Cheerleaders not only work on physical skills but leadership jobs and duties. Because of these many responsibilities, organization is vital to a successful cheerleading program. <p>Learn the basic cheerleading jumps.&nbsp; In this video we cover the tuck and spread eagle.</p>

<p>Here are two examples of some basic cheerleading jumps.<br />
<br />
The first jump that Taylor is gonna show is called the "tuck jump".<br />
<br />
If you notice, the prep is similar to a T jump. What you wanna make sure your cheerleader...as a cheerleader you&#39;re doing is, you&#39;re lifting your knees to your stomach and not lifting your heels to your butt. Again, that was a tuck jump. Can you show that one more time?<br />
<br />
Very good. The second jump is called the "spread eagle". You wanna make sure that you&#39;re driving your toes to the outside wall and you&#39;re hitting a high V motion while you&#39;re in the air. One more time, Taylor, please.<br />

<p>The pike and the toe touch are important intermediate jumps that are part of many youth cheerleading routines. This youth cheerleading video explains the techniques that cheerleaders need for performing these jumps.</p>

<p>Next, I&#39;m gonna have Taylor demonstrate some intermediate jumps. These jumps require a little bit more height and a little bit more flexibility, so it&#39;s important to practice your splits.<br />
<br />
The first jump Taylor&#39;s gonna be doing is called a pike. First, she&#39;s gonna do it from the side view, and then from the front view so you can see the proper body position.<br />
<br />
Beautiful. As you noticed, as Taylor reaches for her jump, she&#39;s bringing her legs up with her feet together and reaching for her toes. Now, from the front, so you can see the other view.<br />
<br />
Beautiful. It&#39;s important, as much as you&#39;re folding your body in half, it&#39;s important to remember not to reach and drop your chest too much.<br />
<br />
The next jump is called a toe touch, which requires a lot of flexibility.<br />
<br />
Beautiful. If you noticed, the proper placement for this jump is arms in a T-motion and legs reaching towards the ceiling with the toes up and the knees up. One more time, Taylor.<br />

<p>This youth cheerleading video shows you how to take a group of basic cheerleading moves and put them together to create a cheerleading routine. These are some great motions that are part of many youth cheerleading routines.</p>

<p>Coach: Anthony and Taylor are going to help demonstrate motion drills. Motion drills are very important to practice cheering and dancing. We&#39;re going to show you the step-by-step, and then we&#39;re going to put it together to counts.<br />
<br />
The first motion you want to hit is called high-V motion. You want to jump out and hit that high V nice and sharp, go straight to a clap, go straight to a low V, go back to the clap, hit a nice T-motion, break that T, hit a daggers motion, also known as broken touchdown, go straight up to your touchdown, and jump together clean.<br />
<br />
We&#39;re going to do it a little bit faster, and I&#39;m going to start by counting. Five, six, seven, eight, high-V, clap, low-V, clap, T, broken T, daggers, touchdown, clean.<br />

<p>Two fundamental gymnastics skills that are essential cheer moves are demonstrated in this video.</p>

<p>The next fundamental gymnastics skill we&#39;re going to work on is the Handstand and once that&#39;s mastered, the Handstand Forward Roll. What Taylor is going to do, she&#39;s going to turn to the side and she&#39;s going to step with her arms by her ears and lunge and kick up. Hold the Handstand, you want to notice how tight her toes are together, you want to make sure you can&#39;t pull your legs apart because she&#39;s squeezing so tight. And then when you&#39;re done you can step down, finish with your arms up. Very good Taylor. Once that is mastered we can work on the Handstand Forward Roll which incorporates two fundamental aspects of gymnastics.<br />
<br />
So again she&#39;s going to lunge, kick up to the Handstand, hold that body position nice and tight, and then when she&#39;s ready she&#39;s going to lower herself down to that Forward Roll. Very good Taylor.</p>

<p>Improve your back handspring by adding a stepout landing.&nbsp; Continue to use the traditional back handspring technique, just split or spread your legs after jumping off and end by landing on one leg.</p>

<p>After you&#39;ve mastered the back bend and bridge, try working on your back walkover. This tumbling move can add a dramatic effect to your routine without requiring advanced tumbling skills.</p>

<p>Want to add a little flare to your next routine? Try working on a flash kick layout. This tumbling move is essentially a backflip with split legs in the air. You&#39;ll need to master a roundoff before trying this element.</p>

<p>This is the second variation of a flash kick. For some, standing in place can add another level of difficulty to this tumbling element. You&#39;ll need strong legs and good upper body power to complete this element correctly.</p>

<p>The back flip full twist requires a high skill level. Be sure to practice your layout and 360 degree twists before you attempt the element as a whole. This is a great skill to practice on a trampoline.</p>

<p>Once you feel comfortable with a traditional cartwheel, add a new layer of difficulty by using one hand. Rhythm and timing should be the same as a normal cartwheel but you&#39;ll need a bit more wrist strength and acceleration.</p>

One Handed Cartwheel

<p>A roundoff is very similar to a cartwheel. The only difference is that you land on both feet at the same time. Also, your legs should be extended together before you land.</p>

<p>This whip back cheerleading and gymnastics drill creates punch and gives the gymnast visual cues for height and hand placement as well as a landing site.</p>

<p>Set up: Bungee Ramp connected to a /Bungee Block connected to a Bungee Mat. On the Bungee Block place a Teddy Bear Mat for hand placement in the Round off. On the Bungee Mat Place a Sweet Spot topped with a Teddy Bear Mat. You could also accomplish this cheerleading/gymnastics drill by placing the Teddy Bear Mats and Sweet Spot on A TumblTrak.</p>
